"Food Parenting" is of crucial importance and it comprises of parents' knowledge, beliefs, affect, and behaviors vis-à-vis their children and food. Especially, in India, we are used to our old ritual of "clean plate" food parenting and it does help imbibe good eating practices and respecting the food in child' mind but at the same time, stuffing food in a child' plate without understanding his apatite, gut health, moods, liking and disliking, can kill the very purpose of providing right quantity of nutrition to child thus resulting in either obesity or malnutrition or unhealthy or less immunity symptoms. Children in their budding ages need to be tackled with great care and sensitivity and parents can seek help of an expert. With increasing tendency of being overweight due to sedentary lifestyle I as a nutritionist, have developed various plans For Overweight and obesity in children and adolescent : 1. Consulting Sessions along with parents 2. 60 to 90 minutes Physical activity planning in a Fun way. 3. Emphasis on knowledge, self monitoring, building self esteem among the children. 4. Group sessions with Children to make weight management exercises a fun and group activity 5. Special cooked meals plans with Parents. 6. Audio and Video sessions with children. Parent, nutritionist and children need to work together as a group. Every child is different and hence needs to be tackled differently.
